The oldest island of the Hawaiian chain, Kaua'i is estimated to be 5 to 6 million years
old. Roughly 23 miles long and 33 miles across, it is the most heavily vegetated and also often considered the loveliest. Po'ipu Crater Resort is located at the southern most tip within Kauai's oldest extinct volcano which last erupted over 20,000 years ago. Known to Hawaiians as Piha Kekua ("Place of the gods"), it is part of the Koloa Volcanic series of cinder-and-spatter cones located in the area.
Due to Mt. Wai'ale'ale (5,148 ft) and its' taller neighbor Kawaikini (5,208 ft), these mountains effectively impede the progress of the rainy, trade winds that frequent
the northeast side of the island. Together, these mountains create
a formidable rain shadow that limits the amount of precipitation
to the southwest section of the island to a mere 20" per year.
Cacti and other dry weather plants can be seen prevalently in the area.
Po'ipu Crater Resort sprawls over 7 acres containing 15 low-rise duplex condominium units within beautiful and lush surroundings. A variety of botanical species inhabit the grounds as well as local birds and reptiles. Many amenities are located within the resort and available to all guests. A beautiful swimming pool is only a short walk from the condo next to a tennis court and a paddle tennis court. The Resort clubhouse, complete with ping-pong table, sauna, shower and restrooms, is located near the pool. BBQ's are also available for guests at the clubhouse for outdoor grilling and dining.
Po'ipu Crater Resort is only steps away from beautiful local beaches and a variety of restaurants, shopping and visitor opportunities.
